One Minute speech

Maiden speech I delivered in the Board Room of Evanston when the change over ceremony took place and I was installed as a Director - Rotary International ( 2007-09)

Mr. President and fellow Rotarians,

I am standing before you with a medley of emotions very difficult to define. Trepidation, nervousness, awe and pride are the main emotions with an undercurrent of happiness and achievement.

I am so overwhelmed by these mixed feelings that I seek your indulgence if I am not able to precisely respond to the expectations of me at this stage or to say how I will fill in the large shoes of a person whom I am succeeding on the Board. I refer to Director Noraseth who has many achievements and abilities to his credit. He brought knowledge, experience and wisdom; he re-defined “gentleman par excellence”. I am indebted to him for the training and guidance he has been giving me.

I recognize that I am addressing such an elite and select audience composed of men of impeccable reputation and stature. To be part of such a group makes me feel both honored and humbled, making me realize the enormity of the task and responsibility upon my shoulders.

I can solemnly promise you always-my-best, be it ever so little.

I admit that this office has its own stature and prestige which only few get but I am practical enough to realize that Rotary will demand from me and my wife Nayantara total dedication and commitment.

I understand what Rotary expects from me and what the Rotarians deserve of me. With utmost humility I accept these challenges and with the help of you all leaders who will be my colleagues, under the guidance of R.I. President Wilfred Wilkinson now and D. K. Lee R.I. President Elect in the future I will always act in the best interest of Rotary upholding its dignity, spirit and objectives.

May good Lord help me in my efforts always keeping me steadfast on the right path.

I look forward to have this opportunity to learn, share and serve with you.
