ROLE OF PDG’S IN IMPROVING HEALTH OF A CLUB
6th September, 2007
Dear Rotary Leaders,
A Club is as healthy as its members are. The health we are talking about is moral health, mental health, attitude health.
It is clear that the ills of the Society permeate down to each and every member of the Society. If this world is full of greed, dishonesty, power lust, ego problems and such other attributes that corrode a society, we will find some Rotarians harbouring these ills.
It
is only for the forthright few to change the scenario for the better. Past
District Governors are often relied upon for their wisdom, fair-play and
honesty. It is for these upright leaders to attempt a cleaning up operation.
Success may not come easily, success may not come early, but in the long run,
the health of the Club will improve.
A Rotary Club may also suffer from inaction, poor membership strength, poor projects and poor participation. Past Governors can be a source of strength to overcome these ills. Past Governors can work as impartial arbitrators to solve disputes and can be relied upon to disseminate vital information to Club members to reactivate them. There are many rolls that a PDG can play in improving the health of a Club. Ignorance, apathy and lack of motivation can all be corrected by sincere and sustained efforts to overcome these faults. It is the job of every Rotarian to contribute to the health of a Club but more so it is the duty of every past leader including a PDG to ensure health. We can immunize against Polio, typhoid, tetanus, measles and many other ills but we have no vaccine to eradicate ego, greed, lust and power hunger. One day, I hope our past leaders will act as a vaccine to prevent these ills.
Look forward to see your active roll in improving the health of all the Clubs in your District which you can reach.
With personal regards,
ASHOK MAHAJAN
DIRECTOR – ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
