LET ROTARY GROW-NOT ONLY IN NUMBERS BUT ALSO IN LOVE
27th November, 2007
Dear Rotary Leaders,
It is indeed a great
achievement of Rotary in Zone V & VI. to have registered a maximum growth in the
entire Rotary world. The figure received shows that as on 31st
October, 2007, we are on the top of the list. However, this is not the time for
complacency or rejoicement. Much more will be needed to support this growth and
perpetuate it.
Retention of existing members must take precedence over everything and all efforts be directed towards retention. It is only the Club leadership and individual Rotarian, who need to be aware of this need and prevent loss through “invalid” reasons. You are the Leaders who can make the Club leaders understand their responsibilities and the impotence of Membership. Those who leave Rotary should be persuaded to remain Rotarians except for some unavoidable circumstances that result in Membership loss. Personal interest must be conveyed at all times and grouses, if any, tried to be eliminated. Early involvement in Rotary’s service activities and Club activities, showering of friendship and love and assimilation through all processes available will prevent loss due to our negligence or apathy.
There is one facet that I want all the District Leaders to consider very seriously. It has been found that an existing Club splits into two because of factionalism. A new Club, born out of strife or conflicting circumstances, will always create dissidence – even animosity. This does not augur well for our Public Relations and for our health. The health of Rotary depends on the common interest of fellowship and service. Both can be in jeopardy of Clubs split into splinter groups. I urge all the Dist.leaders to sit , talk and persuade such an event of a split. Let Rotary grow not only in numbers but also in love, service and happiness. Therein lies our salvation.
